Clark DerbesVery Recent Paintings February 28th – April 11th Looking at these paintings I’m tossed in time. Fauvist dreams of red cows and orange trees put me in a fever dream where Matisse is lugging his plein air painting down a Vermont rural road to meet André Derain for a Mountain Dew before they trek down to a clearing to paint green skies and yellow clouds at the same time Georges Rouault passes by in a pick up truck and puts an outline around every stick and frond; delirious in my art history, Marsden Hartley shows up and get’s into it while pumping gas with Robert Delaunay—tondos and spirals slugging it out against spirits and illusions. So here these paintings are. Now.
